It has been sooooo long since we took Herman out and we were all definitely feeling the itch. So, in timing with Buses & Brews, we all headed to the Half Moon Bay area for a fun and dog friendly, holiday, restful weekend.
As often as we have been to the central coast, we have never explored, in length, the Half Moon Bay/Moss Beach coastline. Turns out, the community is very dog friendly. Lots of walking paths along the beach and even off leash dog beaches. Cooper had a good time.
We camped at the Pillar Point marina...for free...both nights. According to the information posted in the harbor master building, it does cost $45 per night and you have to have a boat at that marina. However, nobody bothered us and there's a bathroom a few feet away that stays open all night. What I'm saying is, if you want to try your luck at a quiet camp spot with bathrooms...for free...I won't tell.
On Saturday, we spent the morning walking out to Mavericks, a location in Half Moon Bay where surfers take their chance at the most dangerous waves in the world. With a storm brewing off the coast that weekend the waves were said to be about 40-feet-tall; we did not see any surfers out there that morning. That afternoon we headed south towards Pescadero to the Highway 1 Brewing Co. for the Buses & Brews meet-up...our first since we became westy owners. We had such a great time meeting other owners from northern California and talking all about their rigs, seeing their set up, hearing where they've been and about their experiences. We absolutely cannot wait for our next one.
While many of the westy owners camped out in the parking lot of the brewery that evening, we headed back to the marina for the annual lighted boat parade. We walked the docks viewing some very festive boats, and broke holiday cookies with other locals, while listening to carolers and mingling with Santa and Mrs. Claus before bed and happy dreams.
Waking up to the rain Sunday morning, we found a cozy little spot in Moss Beach, protected from the wind, and made a warm breakfast of hash brown and sausage before heading home.
This was our last adventure of 2015 and as we look back at all the places we've been to, and all that we've experienced and learned, both Steve and I look forward to what's next in 2016.
